Iran Awaits US Reply on Hormuz Reopening as Qatar Pitches Ideas
Speaking with Iranian journalists in New York, Araghchi said he had sat down once more with the Qatari go-betweens to weigh practical ways of carrying out Tehran's demands.
“They had ideas, and we discussed how a way could be found to meet Iran’s conditions and how those conditions could be fulfilled,” he said, according to an official news agency.
The Qatari proposals will now go to the American side. Washington's final response will then be passed on to Tehran, Araghchi said.
“I hope this will happen by tomorrow,” he added.
The foreign minister said he would depart New York for Tehran within hours, and that the Qatari mediators would deliver the US reply as soon as it is ready.
Communication channels running through Qatari and Pakistani mediators have stayed open, Araghchi said, but the exchanges have grown more serious since Iran submitted its latest proposal.
He added that Tehran had also used its New York meetings to spell out, to Washington and the wider international community, the conditions it says must be met before the Strait of Hormuz can reopen.
