The latest news from Qatar
Provided by AGPAccording to reports, Trump said he was urged by the leaders of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and other unnamed regional actors to delay the strikes because negotiations were reportedly nearing a breakthrough.
“And if we can do that, where there's no nuclear weapon going into the hands of Iran, and if they're satisfied, we will be probably satisfied also,” Trump told reporters at the White House, adding, “There seems to be a very good chance that they can work something out. If we can do that without bombing the hell out of 'em, I'd be very happy.”
He also said he informed Israel and other regional stakeholders about the decision, according to reports.
The president previously warned Iran that the “clock is ticking” for progress in talks, cautioning that failure to act could lead to severe consequences.
Regional tensions remain high following US and Israeli strikes on Iran in February. Tehran responded with attacks on Israel and US-aligned Gulf partners and by closing the Strait of Hormuz, further escalating the confrontation, according to reports.
