Israeli Strike Targets Senior Hamas Figures in Qatar

(MENAFN) Israeli fighter aircraft carried out an assault on top Hamas officials in the Qatari capital, Doha, on Tuesday, marking a fresh setback to attempts at finalizing a Gaza truce agreement.

Detonations were reported across Doha, with visuals capturing thick clouds of smoke billowing into the atmosphere.

The Israeli military announced that it executed a “precise strike” aimed at Hamas’ senior leadership, though it did not reveal the exact site.

An Israeli senior authority informed a media outlet that the operation specifically targeted Hamas leaders inside Doha.

A high-ranking Hamas representative told a Doha-based television channel that the strike occurred while the group’s envoys were reviewing US President Donald Trump’s recent plan concerning a Gaza ceasefire and prisoner exchange.

Another Hamas senior official also confirmed to the channel that the leadership team escaped the Doha assault unharmed.

“Today's action against the top terrorist chieftains of Hamas was a wholly independent Israeli operation,” declared Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office in an official note.

“Israel initiated it, Israel conducted it, and Israel takes full responsibility,” the statement stressed.
